Representatives of the government of Eritrea in the UK were reminded once more to put a curb on the gross violation of religious rights in the country. In a touching show of solidarity with the Persecuted Church of Eritrea, representatives of various Christian demonstrations in the UK handed letters of petition and protest, at a demonstration jointly organised by Release-Eritrea UK, Christian Concern for Freedom of Conscience (CCFC), and Christian Solidarity Worldwide(CSW)

Highlighting the concerns for the wellbeing of Abune Antonios, the lawful Patriarch of The Orthodox Church of Eritrea, His Grace Metropolitan Seraphim of the British Orthodox fellowship handed a letter of petition signed by Eritreans and non Eritreans from across the globe. Abba Seraphim followed his petition by a prayer and words of encouragement for the protestors. However sources present at the event told of their disappointment at the way people at the embassy handled the eminent priest's petition. Elsa Chyrum a renowned Human Rights Activist stated her disappointment saying; ‘these people don't even have the common decency to arrange for the official reception of official letters'.

Concluding the event that lasted an hour and half of prayers and hymns, in solidarity with all the churches suffering persecution at the hands of the government of Eritrea and around 2,000 Christian Prisoners of conscience the directors of the three organisations hosting the event handed letters of protest highlighting their ongoing concerns and their hope that the government of Eritrea would do the right thing by its citizens who far from being a threat to national security are known for their patriotism and good citizenship.

Organisers of the event thank all those who came to show their love and solidarity with their Eritrean brethren Dr Berhane Asmelash Director of Release-Eritrea said ‘I am touched by the continued support and love for Eritrean Christians, we need to continue to pray for them and advocate on their behalf, things there are not getting any easier.'
